North Range Behavioral Health
As the growing need for support in fostering mental health care and resources continues, having a steadfast support system is paramount to the process, especially if one is experiencing a mental health crisis. A mental health crisis can involve a myriad of challenges that impact mental wellness such as situational crises, depressive symptoms, domestic or familial conflicts, feelings of overwhelm, loneliness, stress, anger, panic attacks, suicidal or homicidal thoughts, or psychotic symptoms. These are only a few examples of crisis situations; it is important to acknowledge that the experience of a crisis may vary significantly between individuals, and crises are often best defined by the person themself.
As the Community Mental Health Center for Weld County, a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), and provider of Colorado Crisis Services (CCS), the non-profit organization North Range Behavioral Health is dedicated to providing immediate assistance during challenging times. Let's explore what the North Range Behavioral Health team means for educators, families, and the community at large, understanding the depth of their services, vital resources they provide, their accessible locations, and how you can seamlessly connect with them for assistance.
North Range Behavioral Health's Crucial Role for Educators, Families, and Communities
North Range Behavioral Health’s Crisis Support Services stand as a beacon of hope, offering immediate assistance and emotional support to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. Their fundamental role involves de-escalating crisis situations, providing compassionate support, conducting thorough assessments, and guiding individuals towards appropriate ongoing care which could include adult outpatient services, child, youth and family services, integrated care services, substance use and addiction treatment, telehealth, and much more.
For educators, this signifies having a critical lifeline to ensure the well-being of our students during times of acute emotional distress. For families, it means having access to a helping hand, providing assurance that professional help and understanding are within reach. For communities, it marks a significant stride towards prioritizing mental health and offering the necessary support to conquer life's challenges.
Mental Health Resources & Support Provided by North Range Behavioral Health Crisis Support Services
North Range Behavioral Health Crisis Services offers an array of resources meticulously designed to support individuals and their families during difficult times:
- Immediate Crisis Intervention: Trained behavioral health workers, mental health counselors, clinicians, and peers extend immediate crisis intervention and emotional support, aiming to stabilize the situation and offer a sense of comfort. Crisis intervention might include providing empathy and validation, coping skills, safety planning, psychoeducation, and much more.
- Comprehensive Assessment and Referral: North Range Behavioral Health understands that mental health support does not have a “one-size-fits-all” approach. North Range meets people where they are and ensures that people get the precise support they need. This is accomplished with thorough assessments that help to determine appropriate levels of care as well as referrals to mental health services suitable to their unique needs.
- A Compassionate Ear: Beyond expertise, the Crisis Response Team provides empathy and compassion, offering a much-needed understanding of the emotional struggles individuals face during a crisis. Creating a sense of belonging is a protective factor that can help clients manage stress and other behavioral health challenges. When we feel we have support and are not alone, we are more resilient, often coping more effectively with difficult times in our lives
- Educational Empowerment: The North Range Behavioral Health team educates individuals, families, and community members on how to navigate mental health challenges, providing guidance on accessing vital resources for recovery.
Youth Mental Health
Youth commonly experience mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, self harm, and substance misuse. Mental health challenges in youth can be especially difficult to address in rural communities, where access to mental health resources and/or crisis services may be limited. This is why North Range Behavioral Health is a crucial resource to the communities they serve.
“North Range is helping to fill a huge gap in suicide prevention in our area. Our kids truly appreciate having honest and relatable conversations about mental health and suicide.”
-Abby Hicks, Mead High School, Health Teacher
North Range Behavioral Health's commitment to providing immediate support in mental health crises aligns seamlessly with the YESS Institute's Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs. SEL is the process through which we acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions (download YESS’ Educational Poster about the 5 Core Competencies of SEL). SEL skills can serve as a mental health protective factor for youth, and SEL programs, like those provided by YESS Institute, have been shown to help create a steady foundation for youth success, improve academic achievement and behavioral outcomes.
In an era where youth mental health challenges are increasingly prevalent, both North Range Behavioral Health and the YESS Institute are dedicated to creating strong foundations for youth success and well-being. By equipping young individuals with essential life skills such as self-awareness, emotional regulation, and responsible decision-making, YESS Institute's programs complement North Range's efforts by fostering the development of emotional resilience and healthy coping mechanisms. Together, these organizations form a powerful network of support, guiding youth through life's challenges and ensuring they have the tools necessary to not only survive, but to thrive.
