This is the second year of YESS Mentoring at North High School. This year YESS is offered as an elective leadership class taught during the school day for 25 juniors and seniors. The mentors are leaders at North High School who are very involved in extra curricular activities including National Honor Society, Student Leadership, DPS Student Board of Education, and various sports throughout the year. This wonderful group of students has committed themselves for 1 year to mentoring a struggling 10th grader at risk of dropping out of school.

The 25 mentees are sophomores who are struggling with attendance and failing 3 or more of their academic classes. Through peer-to peer mentoring and helping students to acquire emotional intelligence, we not only improve the mentees’ attendance, but also help them to reach their full academic and social potential.
