YESS at Westminster High School
We finished our first week at Westminster High School! It was such an exciting week for me–I was super eager to get into the classroom and start working with the students. I think we are still trying to get to each other–with good reason, it’s only been one week. However, I am excited about what we have in store and what we can accomplish here.
We spent the whole week doing a lot of team building stuff and getting to know one and other. Students are slowly opening up with each other and getting comfortable in the setting. I still think we have work to do but, in general, students seem like they are being receptive to the program. Mentors are eager to be paired up with their mentees which is great! I love the buy-in of mentors so far. I think it really helped that I met with every single one of them in December to lay down the expectations and what was expected of them. Almost all of them are so excited to give back via YESS. I also sense a lot of uncertainty but I think that’s cool. It will be great how both the mentors and mentees grow in their roles.
I am not a picture person, which I will have to be waaaayyyyyyy better, given these blogs, but I did snap this picture of our coat of arms/tattoos that we made. Until next time!
