Springtime at North High School

Springtime at North High School

North Engagement Center and Main Campus students are working on becoming career minded this week. Students have taken aptitude tests, researched possible careers and have looked at pathways to get to those careers. Students have chosen the 1 career they believe is best suited for them and are now creating a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation. Once completed, they will present their chosen career to the class.
Between researching careers, students also watched Pixar’s Inside Out to start a conversation around our emotions and how they affect our daily lives. Everyone goes through difficult transitions and hardships, Inside Out demonstrates the consequences of bottling up your emotions. Riley (the main character) suppresses sadness and in turn causes more emotional issues for herself than she would have had if she would have just been honest and spoke about her feelings. Many of our students have been through many incredible obstacles and may never have had a platform to speak about these things, like Riley is able to do at the end of the movie. Moving forward, we will be working on peeling back the layers of our emotions to more clearly understand our actions.
